My parents got me interested in music very early, listening to alternative/public radio back in Washington D.C. Stations like Pacifica and WGTB, exposed me to a wide range of music that was not on the mainstream map.
Eventually I discovered the Grateful Dead and when my friend, Kris Nyrop, asked me to help with Backtracks. I found it to be a natural outlet for my obsessive music collecting habits. I started doing Grateful Dead Hour and Backtracks at KBCS in October of 1995. Jerry Garcia is the benchmark of my programming.
I tend to approach everything I do with such serious passion that I don’t really have any “hobbies”. However, I have been playing guitar and writing songs or poetry off and on for over 30 years now including about a dozen live public performances in Seattle. For several years now I have been collecting bamboo. My favorites are the black and timber varieties.
