"Electronic Intifada" co-founder shares his thoughts on an alternative solution to Palestine-Israeli conflict
Last weekend Palestinian activist Ali Abunimah was in town to speak about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Abunimah suggests a different solution from the two-state model the United States has been promoting. Abunimah is a co-founder of the “Electronic Intifada,” a website providing news and commentary on the conflict from a Palestinian perspective. About a hundred students and supporters attended Abunimah’s talk at the University of Washington. Reporter David Griffith was there and brings us this story.

Ali Abunimah is also the author of a book "One Country: A bold proposal to end the Israeli-Palestinian Impasse," which was lauded by The Economist as "A way forward... advocated so skillfully and interestingly." Visit his website for more information.

Interview with author and Institute for Policy Studies Fellow Phyllis Bennis about U.S.-Middle East relations
This week, Vice President Joe Biden met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah. Biden is in the Middle East as part of a campaign to restart stalled peace talks in the region. Israel’s announcement on Tuesday to move forward with the construction of sixteen hundred homes in East Jerusalem dominated the meeting. The construction violates international law and is widely condemned by the international community. Israel’s announcement came just hours after Biden met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The announcement appears to threaten any peace talks before they are even set to begin.

To gain some perspective on these events, Free Speech Radio News host Dorian Merina talked with Phyllis Bennis. Bennis is a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of “Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: A Primer.”

Spotlight on Sudanese women and their vital roles in Sudan’s Second Civil War
We go now to the African country of Sudan. The second civil war between North and South Sudan lasted more than 20 years; 1983 to 2005. The Sudanese People’s Liberation Army or SPLA was founded in 1983 to fight for an independent South Sudan. In January of 2005, the two sides signed a comprehensive peace agreement which brought an end to the war and gave South Sudan greater autonomy.
