Youths Speak Out Against Violence. Will Adults Listen?
Last September, Mayor Greg Nickels launched an 8-million dollar campaign to reduce youth violence after five teenagers were killed in Seattle last year. Known as the Youth Violence Prevention Initiative, it is aimed at reducing teen violence by one-half this year. Tuesday night over one hundred people, mostly youth, filled the downstairs area of Town Hall for an interactive program that aired live on the Seattle Channel. The forum was sponsored by the City Club and several local organizations representing youth and policy makers joined the discussion. David Griffith was at Town Hall for the event.

Local Reddit User Presents Another Side of John Allen Muhammad Reddit.com is a relatively innovative kind of news website. At the homepage, registered users can post links to Internet content—like news articles, images and videos just to name a few. And then unlike other more traditional websites, other Reddit members can then vote the posted links up or down. This causes the posts to become more or less prominent on the Reddit home page. Though users can post web content produced by third parties some “Redditors,” as the members are called, can also write their own original posts. These too can be voted up or down. One World Report Executive Producer Joaquin Uy is a quiet member of this online community. He has this story of a recent controversial post that caught his eye with both Northwest and national connections.

Northwest Green Jobs for Those Who Really Need Them
When President Barack Obama took office, he touted “Green Jobs” as a way for the U.S. to create more employment opportunities while simultaneously making businesses, homes and the national electrical grid more energy efficient. These jobs can include installing solar panels, and implementing energy conserving technologies for all new construction. This week, Green ACRE Radio checks on how the “greening of jobs” is going in the Northwest, while the national unemployment rate is at an all-time high.
